The Nope! Book Tag

I got this tag from Clarissa Reads it All and I couldn’t help myself. I did do a least favorite trope post, but these are different questions, so I’m excited!! Yes, I get excited when I have the opportunity to do a tag post, so sue me! Wait, don’t do that, I’m broke, you won’t get anything – definitely can’t have my books!!

To copy Clarissa, if you read this post, considered yourself tagged 🙂

NOPE! Protagonist: A main character you dislike and drives you crazy.

I know it didn’t ask for characters, but who cares? Bella Swan got on my last nerves that I’m mentally begging for someone else to have the POV of the story. She’s not very smart, she’s so love struck, and I didn’t understand why she was adamant about being turned a vampire, but hesitant about marriage? The hell?

Scarlet…she wasn’t terrible, but I feel like she let’s people, including her sister, get away with too much. The ending really did it for me and I was so disappointed in Scarlet about how she handled the situation – it was almost like, typical Scarlet.

Anastasia…be that she is a fanfic version of Bella Swan, irritated me so much. Why are you interviewing someone when you’re not a reporter? Why are questioning whether this man who doesn’t take the whole concept of ‘safe word’ in mind, is a good man to be with? And more importantly…just why did you have think about him tracking your phone to be illegal?

NOPE! Pairing: A “ship” you don’t support.

I’m adding The Hunger Games for this reason – I don’t support either ship. Why does Katniss have to be shipped with someone? Isn’t fighting for her life and making her family doesn’t starve enough of a stresser without having to worry about who her love interest should be?

And these two!! Ever since Suicide Squad, people have dubbed these two as relationship goals! No!! If you even read the comics, or hell, watched the cartoons, you should know that the Joker is highly abusive and a sociopath! Harley Quinn is a badass, but she’s brain washed when it comes to him! So, no, just no!! I used this cover because it showed the two of them together. I could go on a HUGE rant post alone about WHY these two ARE NOT relationship goals!

It’s been a long time since I’ve read Harry Potter, but I was never on board with Hermione and Ron. I feel like they both deserved someone better. Not saying they are bad characters, far from it, I just don’t agree with them romantically.

NOPE! Genre: A genre you will never read.

Romance/Erotica. Yes, I have read some erotic books when requested by an author, but I don’t seek them out. I don’t have a problem with sex if it’s important to the storyline. Don’t add sex in the book just because you want to sell books. It takes away from the story.

NOPE! Book format: Book formatting you hate and avoid buying until it comes out in a different edition.

There are some ebooks that are PDF format and it’s awful. The paragraphs are often not separated and it makes it difficult to read. This isn’t the author’s fault, however. I just think if you’re going to PDF an ebook, make sure it’s done correctly.

NOPE! Trope: a trope that makes you go NOPE.

Instalove/Love at first sight. Give me a break! Love at first sight is even worth an eye roll when it’s an old fairy tale! One of my favorite book bloggers, Jess Reads Books, said it best. ‘You can fall in lust with someone at first sight, but not love.’ I believe that! Because the first thing you notice is some sort of physical appearance. Love at first sight doesn’t happen like that, and quite frankly, sometimes love at first sight is not a good thing.

NOPE! Recommendation: A book recommendation that is constantly pushed at you, that you simply refuse to read.

I’ve never really had a series pushed on me. I’ve tried several of them because of the hype, but that’s a whole post by itself right here

I will say, to echo Clarissa, 50 Shades of Gray I’ve tried to read…just no!

NOPE! Love interest: The love interest that’s not worthy of being one.

Christian Gray and Edward Cullen. And while Christian Gray is technically the fanfiction version of Edward Cullen, these two I would dub not love interest worthy. They are both stalkers. They are both possessive. And neither one really knows how to treat a loved one as they should be treated. And no, I don’t want to hear, they change in the series – I’m sure they do, but not for the right reasons.

NOPE! Book: A book that shouldn’t have existed.

Yeah…see above answer.

NOPE! Villain: A villain you would hate to cross.

To also echo Clarissa, Cersi from Game of Thrones I definitely would not cross. Nor would I cross Voldemort, ha!

NOPE! Death: A character death that still haunts you.

Don’t judge me. But Dobby the house elf…my poor Dobby!

NOPE! Author: An author you had a bad experience reading for and have decided to quit.

While there are some authors that I didn’t care for, I would never say they should quit writing. Everybody’s style is different! You don’t like this one series or book, that’s okay. To bash a writer in general, that’s poor taste and quite frankly, so disrespectful.
